What is the 20/20 Bike Race?

The Miami University 20/20 Bike Race is one of the most exciting and cherished traditions at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. Hosted by the Miami University Student Foundation (MUSF), this annual event brings together students, alumni, and the community in a spirited and competitive relay-style bike race since 1974.

Background
Inspired by Indiana University’s Little 500 Bike Race, The Miami University 20/20 Bike Race has been around for 51 years. The location of the bike race has varied over the years across historic locations both on and off campus, including Miami Field (which is now Yager Stadium), Cook Field, and Uptown. This year, the 20/20 Bike Race will be at Chestnut Field, making its first debut at the new location.

The Basics
What is 20/20? 20 team/20 laps - historically, the 20/20 bike race would consist of 20 teams of male bike racers who would collectively complete 20 laps, in a relay race, similarly to how it is today.
What is 10/10? The 10/10 bike race was established in 1984, intended for 10 teams of female bike racers who would collectively complete 10 laps, in a relay race.
Today, the 20/20 bike race is for everyone, without distinction of male and female bike racing competitions, and consists of 10 miles total to be more accessible to all bikers.
How many team members? Traditionally, the bike race would include 5 members per team, but this year we are limiting that number to 4, as the bike race is designed to be accessible to participants of all skill levels.
The 20/20 Bike Race Comeback
In 2004, the annual 20/20 Bike Race ended, due to a lack of presence on campus. However, in 2021 our organization decided to bring back this lively historic tradition. Each year, the bike race has a specific theme, this year it's The Red Brick Ride.

The 2025 Bike Race Theme: The Red Brick Ride, honoring Brad Trucksis
Each year, The 20/20 Bike Race has a set name and theme, this year being The Red Brick Ride, representing a feeling of cycling, a moment in time, or relating to Miami University campus history or traditions.
This year, the Bike Race is honoring Brad Trucksis, a 1975 MUSF alum. Brad was known for his kindness, humility, and dedication to others. He cherished MUSF and the Bike Race after his team won the very first Bike Race in 1974. However, that was just the beginning Brad’s involvement in MUSF and the annual Bike Race, and continued to serve on the Miami Alumni Board, serving as co-chair for MUSF’s 50th anniversary reunion in 2024.
Brad’s memory will continue to live on through the Bike Race, as well as the scholarship dedicated in his name, ensuring that his generosity and school spirit continues to inspire future generations.
